ASHWAGANDHA AND 3 STUDIES PROVING IT’S BENEFITS!

For anyone who doesn’t know on one of his most recent podcasts Ander Huberman talked about Ashwagandha and how it can help:

  1. Decrease cortisol (the hormone that makes you store body fat)
  2. Increases your body’s natural ability to recover 
  3. Stay asleep all the way through the night 

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is an adaptogenic herb that has been used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine for centuries. While scientific research on Ashwagandha is ongoing, there is evidence to support several potential health benefits. Here are three reasons why people may consider taking Ashwagandha:

Stress Reduction and Anxiety Management:

A prospective, randomized double-blind, placebo-controlled study of safety and efficacy of a high-concentration full-spectrum extract of Ashwagandha root in reducing stress and anxiety in adults. Indian Journal of Psychological Medicine, 34(3), 255–262.
  • Study Summary: This study found that Ashwagandha supplementation significantly reduced stress and anxiety levels in adults compared to a placebo group.

Cognitive Function and Memory Improvement:

  • Source: Choudhary, D., Bhattacharyya, S., & Bose, S. (2017). Efficacy and Safety of Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera (L.) Dunal) Root Extract in Improving Memory and Cognitive Functions. Journal of Dietary Supplements, 14(6), 599–612.
  • Study Summary: The study suggests that Ashwagandha supplementation may improve memory, cognitive function, and information processing speed.

Anti-Inflammatory and Immune Support:

  • Source: Wankhede, S., Langade, D., Joshi, K., Sinha, S. R., & Bhattacharyya, S. (2015). Examining the effect of Withania somnifera supplementation on muscle strength and recovery: a randomized controlled trial. Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition, 12(1), 43.
  • Study Summary: This study indicates that Ashwagandha supplementation may have an anti-inflammatory effect and could support immune function. The study also suggests potential benefits for muscle strength and recovery.
